March 15, 2020 by-election – Update of the situation
The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing has ordered a by-election in municipalities where a quorum of councils no longer exists or where the office of mayor is vacant. The polling day for these by-elections was set by the Minister for October 4, 2020. This does not apply to the by-election in Saint-Léonard-Est which was initially scheduled for March 15, 2020, but cancelled due to the pandemic.
Tabling at council meeting of the draft by-law concerning electoral districts (2021 general election)
The object of the draft by-law is to ensure that each electoral district of each borough is delimited in accordance with the criteria in the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities (CQLR, chapter E-2.2).
March 15, 2020 by-election – SUNDAY’S ELECTION CANCELLED
In accordance with government guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the instructions we received today from the Ministère des Affaires municipales et de l'Habitation, Montréal’s returning officer, Me Yves Saindon, is cancelling the by-election scheduled for Sunday, March 15, 2020, in the Saint-Léonard-Est electoral district to fill the office of city councillor.
Élection Montréal 2020 – Youth polling stations
On Sunday, March 15, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven youth polling stations will be open for school-age youth from the Saint-Léonard-Est district, in the Saint-Léonard borough, where a by-election will be held.

The Returning Officer confirms that 909 persons, namely 4.14 % of registered electors, voted today at the advance poll.

The advance polling stations will be open on Sunday, March 8, from noon to 8 p.m.

In accordance with the Act respecting elections and referendums in municipalities, Yves Saindon, the city's returning officer, announced today that the by-election for city councillor for the Saint-Léonard-Est district in the Saint-Léonard borough will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Note that Patricia R. Lattanzio was elected to the House of Commons on October 21, 2019.
Voter turnout (4 p.m.)
At 4 p.m., the returning officer announced that 17.33 % of electors had exercised their right to vote at the by-election for mayor of the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. The total includes electors at the advance poll on September 29.

As part of the by-election to be held in the Le Plateau-Mont-Royal borough on Sunday, October 6, 2019, twenty-three youth polling stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The returning officer therefore invites school-age youth to come and vote for their favourite municipal service at any of the borough’s 23 designated locations.
